How to Wall Mount a Cabinet

Wall-mounted cabinets can be a great way to add storage and improve the look of any room. Whether you're adding extra storage to your kitchen or bathroom, or you're looking to create a more modern look in your living room, wall-mounted cabinets are a practical and stylish option.

Mounting cabinets on the wall can seem like a daunting task, but it's actually quite simple with the right tools and materials. With a little planning and preparation, you can have your cabinets mounted in no time.

Tools and Materials You'll Need

Before you get started, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials. You will need:

  • Cabinet(s)
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill
  • Level
  • Stud finder
  • Pencil
  • Tape measure
  • Safety glasses

Step 1: Choose a Location

The first step is to choose the right location for your cabinet. Make sure the location you choose is level and has enough space for the cabinet. You should also make sure the location is near an electrical outlet if you plan on using any appliances in the cabinet.

Step 2: Mark the Wall

Once you've chosen a location, use a pencil to mark the top and bottom of the cabinet on the wall. You should also mark the location of the studs in the wall. Use a stud finder to locate the studs and mark them with a pencil.

Step 3: Drill Pilot Holes

Next, drill pilot holes into the studs. The pilot holes should be slightly smaller than the screws you will be using.

Step 4: Mount the Cabinet

Place the cabinet on the wall and align it with the marks you made in Step 2. Drive the screws through the pilot holes and into the studs. Make sure the screws are tight, but do not overtighten them.

Step 5: Level the Cabinet

Once the cabinet is mounted, use a level to check if it is level. If it is not level, adjust the screws until it is.

Step 6: Install the Doors and Shelves

Once the cabinet is level, install the doors and shelves. Make sure the doors open and close smoothly and that the shelves are level.

Tips for Mounting Cabinets

Here are a few tips for mounting cabinets:

  • Use a level to make sure the cabinet is level before you tighten the screws.
  • Drive the screws into the studs, not into the drywall.
  • If you are mounting a heavy cabinet, use toggle bolts or molly bolts instead of screws.
  • Be careful not to overtighten the screws, or you could damage the cabinet.
With these tips, you can easily mount cabinets on the wall and improve the look and functionality of any room.
